As we all know, the UK is set to leave the EU on 29th March 2019 or soon thereafter. If no agreement or deal is secured with the EU before then, the UK will leave the European Union and subsequently trade under WTO rules. While there are frantic discussions ongoing to avoid this situation, the deadline however is now closing in, and to mitigate potential risk we need to plan for a no-deal scenario.
In order to assist with your own preparations for such a situation, there are some fairly straightforward steps to consider in order to minimise any resulting impact, so we suggest you consider the following 4 important guidelines :-
- EORI (Economic Operator Registration and Identification) number – by now most traders will have one, but if not, you will need to apply for one – you can do so via the following link. https://www.gov.uk/eori
2. TSP (Transitional Simplified Procedures) – This is a new process which only importers can apply for, and we strenuously recommend that all importers apply without further delay, if not already done . Importers can obtain guidance and assistance on how to apply for TSP via the links below. Once you have done this you can import most goods into the UK without the need for full customs declarations at the port, and postpone paying your customs duties. This will potentially and significantly reduce disruption at the ports and the transit impact on your freight.
3. Authority for a Customs Clearance Agent to act as a Direct Representative – Please complete the ACCA Form and return with your main contact at Currie Solutions.
4. Supporting paperwork – Please be prepared to make sure that your shipments are supported by a commercial export/import invoice, which must include clear details of the shipment and particularly, an accurate value along with a full customs commodity code.
If you have not already done so, you can register to receive regular updates from the UK Government and we’d strongly advise you do so via the links below :-
Hopefully the above will offer some assistance and we’ll aim to keep you updated on any significant developments .
